The department is staffed by one music teachers and a team of instrumental peripatetic tutors.

The KS3 curriculum is predominantly practical and focuses on learning to perform in a range of music styles both as a soloist and in an ensemble. We learn the basic principles of music theory through practical project based work. All students learn to play the keyboard in Year 7 and the guitar in Year 8. There are opportunities to compose on both instruments and music software. We promote student choice and where possible students will select their own repertoire to ensure each student is motivated to work towards their own personal goal.

Instrumental Provision

All students learn to play the keyboard and guitar throughout KS3 in their weekly music lessons. In addition to this, students can opt to have 1:1 tuition on a range of orchestral instruments, as well as drums, steel pans and voice. There are a number of ensembles students can join and many chose to start their own!

Music at Key Stages 3 & 4

All students in Years 7, 8 and 9 have one Music lesson per week.
We study the OCR GCSE Music course in KS4 which is a practical course focussing on performance and composition.

Music Accommodation.

We have good quality, purpose-built accommodation. There are two teaching rooms; one classroom and one large practical space with a class set of keyboards and acoustic guitars. We have a Mac suite housing 12 iMacs running a range of music specific software packages and midi keyboards. In addition, our Band Room rehearsal space has a permanent PA system, drum kit, piano and electric and bass guitars.
There are also seven practice rooms – so lots of room for music making!
